Q. Can I port my landline number?
A: Yes, any geographical number staring with 01, 02, 03, 04 & 05 can be ported. Virtual landline numbers cannot be ported. Cell phone numbers and 0861 numbers also cannot be ported.
Q. What docs do I need to port my number?
A: Last Telkom Invoice, POP of last Telkom invoice, Copy of ID. Email to voip@datamass.africa
Note: you cannot port a number with a DSL service if the DSL service is not supplied by Telkom (another ISP owns your line). The line will need to be cancelled with the other ISP first.
Q. How long does it take to port my number?
A: Typically 10 – 14 days once all documentation has been provided. We will notify you once done.
Q. Does VoIP work on any protocol (fibre, DSL, LTE)?
A: Yes but the quality of voice calls is entirely dependant on the quality of your internet line. We recommend that VoIP be used across low latency protocols such as fibre or LTE.
Q. Do I need a VoIP handset on a VoIP service?
A: It is recommended. There are other options such as using a mobile app (such as Zoiper) on your phone, or purchasing an ATA device which allows you to use your standard Telkom handset on a VoIP service, thereby cutting your costs.
Q. How many devices can I use my SIP account on?
A: A SIP account can be configured on up to 6 handsets, which allows for up to 6 concurrent calls.
